Amnesty International Declares Salvadoran Lawyers Prisoners of Conscience
Group denounces mounting repression under Bukele government
Amnesty International has designated Ruth Eleonora López, Alejandro Henríquez, and José Ángel Pérez as prisoners of conscience in El Salvador, accusing the government of waging a campaign of political repression.
The rights group says the lawyers were arrested for their work defending civil liberties and opposing emergency security measures that critics claim have eroded rule of law.
Officials in San Salvador deny wrongdoing, insisting the arrests target crime and corruption.
