Journalists from El Salvador’s leading investigative outlet El Faro have fled the country following threats of arrest after publishing reports linking the Bukele government to covert negotiations with criminal gangs.

The exiled reporters say they fear politically motivated charges and reprisals as part of a broader attack on press freedom.
