A Maryland man deported to El Salvador earlier this year has been moved out of a high-security megaprison but remains incarcerated, according to a U.S. senator who met with him.

The detainee, identified as Kilmar Abrego Garcia, was previously held in one of the country’s most notorious facilities.

Human rights groups continue to monitor his situation amid growing concern over overcrowding and reported abuses in El Salvador’s penal system.
