El Salvador assumed the presidency of the regional protection and asylum framework during the Organization of American States General Assembly in Panama. Salvadoran officials said the country's sharp decline in homicides has strengthened investor confidence, expanded tourism, and helped reverse long-standing patterns of forced migration.
